Soiano del Lago

The castle of Soiano was equipped with an ancient tower that in the thirteenth century. lt was demolished because now unsafe. On its base was erected a bell tower that has come down to us.

Already at the beginning of the seventeenth century. The tower had 2 bells, one large and one small. That punctuated with their chimes the most important moments in the Iife of the community .

lt is said that during World War Il the bells were dismantled by some citizens and buried underground, to prevent the army to melt them to make weapons/ tanks for war.Then, as today, the "flat" sound marks the days of celebration and exultation.The bell ringer was in charge of the bells, he had the privilege to reside inside the castle and was paid by the municipality.
